Places You’ll See

Step into ancient Japan without leaving your comfort zone. Your private vehicle collects you from your hotel door and carries you into Kyoto — Japan’s imperial capital for over a thousand years. Four legendary landmarks, one seamlessly guided day, entirely on your schedule.

STOP-BY-STOP ITINERARY

Begin your day at one of Japan’s most awe-inspiring Shinto shrines. Fushimi Inari is famous worldwide for its seemingly endless tunnel of over 10,000 vermilion torii gates winding up the forested slopes of Mount Inari. Each gate was donated by a Japanese business or individual as an offering to Inari, the deity of rice, sake, and prosperity. Walk as far into the mountain as you wish — the atmosphere grows more mystical and peaceful the deeper you go. Early morning light filtering through the gates creates one of the most magical photography scenes in all of Asia.

Travel to the scenic Arashiyama district on the western outskirts of Kyoto. Step into the legendary Sagano Bamboo Forest, where towering bamboo stalks rise on both sides of the path, filtering the light into a soft, otherworldly green glow and filling the air with a gentle rustling sound. Stroll down to the iconic Togetsukyo Bridge spanning the Oi River, framed by forested mountains that blaze with colour in autumn and bloom with cherry blossoms in spring. Browse local snack stalls, try freshly made yudofu tofu, or simply take in the tranquillity of one of Kyoto’s most beloved neighbourhoods.

No visit to Kyoto is complete without seeing Kinkaku-ji — the Temple of the Golden Pavilion. Built in 1397 as the retirement villa of Shogun Yoshimitsu Ashikaga, its top two floors are covered entirely in brilliant gold leaf, reflected perfectly in the still surface of the Kyokochi Pond below. The surrounding Zen garden, manicured stone islands, and pine trees frame the pavilion in a scene of extraordinary beauty regardless of the season. It is one of the most photographed buildings in Japan and remains as breathtaking in person as it appears in photographs.

Ascend to Kiyomizu-dera, a UNESCO World Heritage Site perched dramatically on the forested hillside of Mount Otowa. The temple’s iconic wooden stage — built without a single nail and supported by 139 massive wooden pillars — juts out over the treetops, offering sweeping panoramic views across Kyoto city below. Drink from the three streams of the sacred Otowa Waterfall, each said to grant success, longevity, and a fortunate love life. Descend through the stone-paved lanes of Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka — Kyoto’s best-preserved historic alleys — lined with traditional wooden machiya townhouses, matcha tea shops, handmade ceramics, and silk goods.

Kyoto’s most famous geisha district and one of the best-preserved historic neighbourhoods in Japan. Wander the lantern-lit stone lanes of Hanamikoji Street, lined with ochaya teahouses where geiko and maiko have entertained guests for centuries. If you visit at dusk, you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a geisha gliding quietly between appointments — one of the most iconic and fleeting sights in all of Japan. Your guide will point out hidden shrines, local sweet shops, and the best spots to capture the timeless atmosphere of old Kyoto.

Your private vehicle returns you directly to your hotel or preferred drop-off point, arriving comfortably by early evening.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  1. Wear comfortable walking shoes — all stops involve moderate walking on stone paths and stairs
  2. Kiyomizu-dera involves an uphill climb — take your time and enjoy the views on the way up
  3. Gion is best experienced at dusk for the highest chance of spotting geisha
  4. Carry some cash — many traditional shops and smaller vendors do not accept credit cards
  5. Your driver will confirm pickup time and vehicle details the evening before your tour
  6. Temple dress codes are relaxed but modest, respectful clothing is recommended
